We need your help now and it is the perfect time for action. Deepwater filed with the New York State Public Service Commission (September 18, 2018) and the Federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (October 17, 2018) for permission to land its massive high-power cable on Beach Lane, one of the most popular public and scenic beaches in the Hamptons.
Your immediate action is needed:
1. Sign the petition. Please join hundreds of neighbors who have already signed our petition. You can sign online here;
2. Email the New York State Public Service Commission rejecting the proposed landing at Beach Lane. Under its Article VII review process, the Commission wants and solicits community comments. They matter a lot. Electronically submit them on the Public Service Commission website. Alternatively you can email your comments to secretary@dps.ny.gov (make sure to reference Case 18-T-0604 Application of Deepwater Wind South Fork);
3. Tell the East Hampton Trustees to reject Deepwater’s Beach Lane route. Trustees at info@trustees.easthamptonny.gov, Francis Bock at FBock@EHamptonNY.Gov (a Trustee and Clerk), and Susan McGraw Keber at susan4wainscott@gmail.com, the Trustee who represents Wainscott. The Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of East Hampton are one of the two important governing bodies (along with the Town Board) responsible for approvals; and
4. Tell the East Hampton Town Board. 5. Register to vote … it is an election year for East Hampton. Not all of us have registered to vote in Wainscott, particularly, but not limited to, those who have second-homes here. Our small hamlet can seem even smaller to our elected officials. Our voices are, therefore, under-represented. We have had many neighbors write us thanking us for reminding them about this. - It is easy to register to vote:
- First, download the New York State voter registration form;
- Second, in the ‘address where you live’ (Section 5), fill in your Wainscott home address (not the P.O. Box);
- Third, return the fully completed application to the Suffolk County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 700, Yaphank, N.Y. 11980.
- After receiving your registration, you can then request an absentee ballot for New York State in advance of the upcoming 2019 elections so you can vote by mail:
- First download the absentee ballot application;
- Second, as you fill out all sections, be sure to:
- In Section 2, request your ballots for ‘any election held’ between 1/1/2019 and 1/31/2019;
- In Section 5 (‘address where you live’), fill out your local Wainscott address (not the P.O. Box);
- In both Sections 6 and 7, write where you would like the absentee ballots mailed to you;
- Finally, return your absentee ballot application to the Suffolk County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 700, Yaphank, N.Y. 11980.
